We are located on Route 88 in Falmouth, just
ten minutes north of Portland on the shores of beautiful Casco
Bay. We are proud to be Americas third oldest continuously
running yacht club and to be recognized by Lloyds Register
as the thirteenth
oldest yacht club organized on April 26, 1869. Our membership
is active in cruising, racing and boating. Portland Yacht
Club is home to the Pilot Race, PHRF Race weekend and the
Monhegan Island Race. The Club also hosts informal races every
summer Thursday Night. Our J-24 Fleet 43 is very active, with
racing on every Wednesday night and almost every weekend,
along with our new class of Etchells who race every Tuesday
night. Our cruises include a shakedown cruise in June, a two-week
cruise Downeast in July enjoyed by thirty to forty Club boats,
and a mini-cruise at the end of the season. Our active Junior Sailing Program is open to non-members and
has produced many first class sailors. Most recently Peter
Levesque and Nichol Ernst won the Bemis Trophy, awarded to
the top junior 420 sailors in the United States. Our program
uses Club-owned Optimists and 420s, along with some privately-owned
boats. Applications for the program are available on our website www.portlandyachtclub.com.
