2008 Staff

Kelly Franklin, JSP Director
After having coached at PJYC for five seasons as the Beginner and Intermediate Opti
Coach, Kelly has come on board to run the show! She is thrilled to be a part of this
program again and is looking forward to a wonderful, safe summer! Kelly grew up in
Falmouth, ME as a junior sailor at PJYC. She began sailing widgeons at the age of
twelve, and continued on to race 420s for PJYC for several seasons throughout middle
school and high school. Between her summers at PYC, she also coached Optis and 420s
for Seal Harbor Yacht Club for the 2003 season. After Kelly moved back to Maine yearround
she became the Falmouth High School Sailing Coach at SailMaine for the fall of
2007. Now, she is looking forward to working with a great team of coaches to make
another successful season for PJYC junior sailors!

Ashley Hallett, Assistant Director and Beginner Pram Coach
Ashley Hallett will be the Assistant Director and Beginning Pram Instructor. Ashley grew
up in this program racing optimists and lasers and spent a little bit of time in the 420's as
well. Ashley spends the winter months raising her 1 1/2 year old son, Brady, and is a
nanny while attending college. She has her Associates Degree in Behavioral Health and
Human Services but has recently changed her focus to Elementary Education at USM.
This is Ashley's 5th year back as an instructor at PYC teaching both Beginning Pram and
Intermediate Opti sailors. This will be Ashley's second year coaching the Pram sailors
and after a very long winter, is looking forward to a fantastic summer back the PYC.

Carolyn Faust, Opti Intermediate
Carolyn grew up sailing in Christmas Cove at the Christmas Cove Improvement
Association sailing Opti's and 420s. Carolyn also coached sailing at the CCIA as a high
school student. After racing at the CCIA, she began racing JY-15s in various regattas in
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. During this time she also began racing
larger sailboats in Block Island Race Week, Fall and Spring Off-Soundings, Duck Island
Thundermug, and various others. Last summer, Carolyn was aboard the antique vessel
Neith based in Mystic, CT; where she held the position of First Mate, under Captain
Laurie Belisle. She has her Associates Degree in Business Management and is currently
working towards completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Medical Biology at USM.

Jonathan Bernbaum, Optimist Race Coach
Jonathan Bernbaum, a resident of Lake Forest, Illinois has spent much of his sailing
career on the east coast. Jonathan attended St. Georges in Newport, RI where he was a
member of their varsity sailing team all four years of high school, his last of which he
was captain. There, the team placed in the top three in the nation in both team, and fleet
racing events. Jonathan's summer sailing has taken him to such events as the U.S. Youth
Championships, Bemis National Championships, as well as many other competitive
events. Jonathan now attends Hobart & William Smith where he will be a Junior upon
returning in the fall.

Craig Nale, 420 Race Coach and Race Coordinator
Craig Nale will be joining us at PYC for the 2008 season as our 420 Race Coach and
Race Coordinator. He will be working with our Opti Race Coach to provide a safe and
fun environment for our racers both at PYC and at away events. Craig attended Boston
University and has a BA in Art History. Most recently, he has been the Assistant Coach
at Bowdoin College. However, Craig has been the 420 Race Coach at other regional
clubs including Northeast Harbor and Harraseeket Yacht Clubs. After spending several
seasons away from his days as a junior sailor here at PYC, he is excited to be returning to
us for another season.

Jimi Cullum, Basic 420
Jimi grew up in Harpswell, ME and started sailing on his sunfish as a youngster. He was
often helping his aunt and uncle with their boat delivery business as a teenager. Jimi is
very well known in the PHRF community for his superhuman saves on larger boats. He
has been a crew member on Dick Hale’s Bandito for five seasons and is truly at ease on
the water in any conditions. Jimi has just come back from having lived in California for
the past year and half and he is pleased to be teaching something he loves!

Margo LaLumiere, Sailing Apprentice
Margo has sailed at PYC since she was eight years old. Margo was on the Opti and 420
race teams for several seasons. Last summer she taught at Prout’s Neck Yacht Club as a
sailing coach. Margo will be a senior at Falmouth High School next year.
